Missile Man Abdul Kalam

Life Introduction:-

🔸Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu to a Muslim family. 

🔸His father jainulabdeen was a sailor and mother Ashiamma  was a housewife. 

🔸Abdul Kalam inherited the virtues of honesty and self discipline from his father and faith in God and compassion from his mother. His family's economic conditions was not good, so he hed to work from an early age. 

🔸As a child, Kalam used to sell newspapers after school to help his father finacially. 

Education:-

🔸He did his schooling from Ramanathapuram Schwartz Matriculation School and than studied at St. Joseph's Collage, Tiruchirappalli. From where he graduated in Physics in 1954.

🔸Studied Aerospace Engineering From Madras in 1955. Then in the year 1960, Kalam Completed his engineering studies from the Madras Institute of Technology. 

🔸Abdul Kalam was interested in astronomy. From childhood he was curious about the mysteries of the birds flying in the sky. 

Scientific introduction:-

🔸Abdul Kalam first joined the Defence Resarch  and Devlopment Organization (DRDO) as a scientist. 

🔸Dr. Kalam began his career by designing small helicopters for the Indian Army. 

🔸Dr. Kalam was aslo a member of the Indian Space Resarch Committee formed by Pandit Jawaharlal Naheru. 

🔸During this time he met the famous space scientist Dr. Got an opportunity to work with Vikram Sarabhai. He was transferred to the Indian Space Resarch Organization (ISRO) in the year 1969.

🔸Appointed Director of India's Satellite Launch Project at ISRO. As a result of the success of this project, India's first satellite 'Rohini' was placed in the Earth's orbit in 1980.

🔸When he started working on the Satellite Launch Vehicle Project at ISRO, he felt like he was doing what he thought. 

🔸During the year 1963-64, he also visited the US Space agency NASA. Nuclear scientist Raja Ramanna, Under whose supervison India conducted its first nuclear test, invited Kalam to witness the nuclear test at Pokhran in 1974.

🔸Dr. Abdul Kalam's fame rose to such an extent that the then Prime Minister Indra Gandhi allowed him to work on some secret projects without the aproval of her cabinet. 

🔸The Government of India launched an ambitious 'Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme' under the supervison of Dr. Kalam. This project has given the country missiles like Agni and Prithvi. 

🔸From July, 1992 to December 1999, Dr. Kalam was scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the defense Research and Devlopment Organization (DRDO). 

🔸India conducted its second nuclear test during this period. Dr. Kalam was the coordinator of this project along with R. Chidambaram. At this time he became the greatest nuclear scientist of the country. 

As a President of India :- 

🔸The NDA coalition government made him its presidential candidate in the year 2002. He defeated his rival Lakshmi Sehgal and was sworn in as the 11th President of India on July 25, 2002.

🔸Dr. Abdul Kalam was the third President of the country to be awarded the Bharat Ratna before becoming President. Earlier, Dr. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Zakir Hussain were awardes 'Bharat Ratna' before becoming the President. 

🔸During his tenure, he was known as the 'People's President'. 


Award and Honors :-

🔸About 40 universities awarded him honorary directorship and the Government of India honore him with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

🔸Indira Gandhi Award for National Unity in 1997

🔸Veer Savarkar Award

🔸Ramanujan Award by Alvaras Research Center in 2000

🔸King Charles-II Medal from the Royal Society in 2007

🔸Hoover Medal by the ASME foundation of USA to Dr. United Nations. Kalam's 79th birthday was recognized as World Students' Day. 

Death :-

🔸Dr. Kalam visited IIM Shillong on 27 July 2015 to deliver a lecture on "Creating a Liveable Planet Earth".

🔸He suddenly collapsed in the lecture Hall at around 6:35 in the morning after delivering the lecture for only five minutes. He was taken to Bethany Hospital in critical condition. Then at 7:45 am, he was pronounced dead of a heart attack. 

🔸Along with India, the whole world mournes the loss of a great scientist.
